The crash occurred just after 8 a.m., Wednesday, March 9 on Route 9 at Courtney Road, according to Lakewood police spokesman Capt. Gregory Staffordsmith.
An Infiniti G37, driven by a 23-year-old Lakewood Township man, was headed north on Route 9 when a Chevy Impala attempted to make a left turn onto Courtney Road, Staffordsmith said.
The Impala turned in front of the Infiniti, causing a crash that led the Infiniti to strike a nearby traffic signal, he said.
The Impala driver, identified as Mark Mandel, died at the scene of the crash, the captain said.
Lakewood firefighters and emergency medical services crews extricated the Infiniti driver, Alejandro Huerta Arias, Staffordsmith said. He was treated for a leg fracture and taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center.
